CBN Clears Air on Viral Fake N5,000 Note Online

A fake image of a supposed new N5,000 banknote has been circulating widely on social media, causing confusion among Nigerians.

CBN Clears Air on Viral Fake N5,000 Note Online

The image shows President Bola Tinubu on the note and sparked claims that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) had introduced a new higher currency denomination.

The CBN has dismissed the claim, saying the note is not real and should be ignored. The bank urged the public to depend only on its official communication channels for any information about currency changes or monetary policy.

This is not the first time such false currency news has spread online. Similar claims about new N5,000 and N10,000 notes have appeared in the past and were also denied by the apex bank.

The incident highlights how quickly misinformation about money and economic policy spreads on social media, often creating unnecessary panic and debate before official clarification is made.
