Nigeria Loses Top General and Soldiers in Borno Attacks
Brigadier General Oseni Omoh Braimah and 17 soldiers have been killed in coordinated attacks by suspected Islamic State West Africa Province fighters in Borno State, Nigeria.

The attacks happened early Thursday and hit military formations in Benisheikh in Kaga Local Government Area, Ngamdu, and Pulka in Gwoza Local Government Area at the same time. The simultaneous strikes point to a coordinated operation aimed at stretching military response across multiple locations. Security sources say the attackers targeted several positions to weaken rapid reinforcement and create confusion on the ground.
The death of a senior officer alongside 17 soldiers marks a major setback for Nigerian troops in the North East, where they have been engaged in ongoing counter-insurgency operations for years.
