The former attorney-general is facing alleged misappropriation and money-laundering charges.
DSS Rearrests Former AGF Abubakar Malami Shortly After Release From Kuje Prison
Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have taken former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami (SAN) into custody in Abuja, moments after his release from Kuje Correctional Centre on Monday, security sources confirmed.

Malami had been freed after perfecting bail conditions granted by the Federal High Court in Abuja in connection with a money-laundering case involving alleged misappropriation and concealment of funds, with bail set at ₦500 million each for him, his wife and son under strict surety requirements.
However, as he exited the prison facility, DSS operatives reportedly placed him back into custody. A video circulating online showed Malami asking security personnel to present their identification before entering a vehicle believed to belong to the agency.
Security sources said the re-arrest is linked to new petitions alleging terrorism financing and related offences, including reports that arms and ammunition were discovered at his residence in Birnin Kebbi during earlier searches. Because illegal possession of weapons and terrorism financing fall under the DSS’s statutory mandate, the matter has, according to sources, been transferred to the agency for investigation.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which is prosecuting Malami in the money-laundering case, clarified that it was not responsible for the latest arrest, and attempts to obtain an official comment from the DSS were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
Malami has not publicly responded to the re-arrest, and authorities have not yet disclosed formal charges related to the terrorism financing allegations.
