Iran Reportedly Offers Bounty for Killing or Capturing US Soldiers

Iran has reportedly offered a financial reward for the killing or capture of U.S. military personnel, according to reports emerging amid the continuing conflict between Washington and Tehran.

Iran Reportedly Offers Bounty for Killing or Capturing US Soldiers

The reported bounty is $54,000, although some reports have circulated a lower figure of $30,000. The latest reporting also claims that the reward would be doubled if the target were a female U.S. service member.

The reported offer comes as the U.S.-Iran conflict continues to escalate, with Iranian missiles and drones targeting American military assets and U.S. forces conducting strikes against Iranian targets.

The conflict has already resulted in American military casualties. In July, the U.S. military confirmed the death of an American soldier in northern Iraq during the controlled detonation of an unexploded Iranian drone. The death brought the number of U.S. service members killed since the start of the conflict to 17, according to reporting citing U.S. military statements.

Iran has also targeted U.S. military installations and other American-linked facilities across the region, while Washington has maintained significant military forces in the Middle East. At one point, more than 50,000 U.S. service members were reported to be deployed in the region, substantially above the normal level of roughly 30,000–40,000.

The reported bounty adds another dimension to an already dangerous confrontation. Beyond conventional missile and drone attacks, Iran has previously been accused of supporting or directing assassination and kidnapping plots against perceived American and Iranian opposition targets abroad.

U.S. authorities have previously prosecuted alleged plots linked to Iran targeting Iranian dissidents and former American officials. In one prominent case, U.S. prosecutors alleged that Iran had placed a $500,000 bounty on Iranian-American journalist and activist Masih Alinejad.

The latest reported bounty therefore comes against a background of heightened threats to U.S. personnel and officials, although the circumstances and source of the reported $54,000 offer should be carefully distinguished from officially confirmed Iranian government policy.

The discrepancy over the amount is important for publication. I would not headline this as “Iran Offers $30,000 Bounty” unless your original source specifically confirms that figure. Current reporting I found gives $54,000.
