Airport Authorities Dismiss Staff Over Extortion, Sanction Officer in Bribery Incident
Authorities in Ghana have taken disciplinary action against airport personnel following separate incidents involving extortion and misconduct at Kotoka International Airport in Accra.

The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) confirmed that two port health officers assigned to Terminal 3 were removed from duty after being found guilty of overcharging a traveller for a Yellow Fever vaccination card. The officers reportedly collected $40 from a foreign passenger, exceeding the approved fee structure. Their access to airport facilities has been revoked, and they are no longer permitted to operate at any airport managed by the company.
In a related development, the airport authority also addressed a viral video showing an immigration officer soliciting money from a passenger under the pretext of requesting a small personal favour. The Ghana Immigration Service has since taken action by reassigning the officer away from airport duties.
GACL reiterated its commitment to maintaining professionalism and integrity across airport operations, stating that it will continue to monitor staff conduct closely. Passengers were encouraged to report any cases of misconduct through designated communication channels.
The company emphasised its zero-tolerance stance on extortion and other unethical practices, noting that such measures are necessary to safeguard the reputation of the country’s aviation sector.
