Beijing to Launch Satellite Town as China Expands Aerospace Industry
Beijing is set to launch a new “Satellite Town” aimed at strengthening the country’s fast-growing aerospace sector, with the core area expected to be completed in the second half of 2026.

The planned hub will serve as a central base for satellite manufacturers and operators, designed to cluster companies, talent, capital, and technology in one location to accelerate innovation and production.
The development comes as China’s commercial space industry continues to expand rapidly, with commercial launches now accounting for more than 60% of total space missions, reflecting increasing private-sector participation.
Industry analysts say the sector is being driven by faster launch approvals, localisation of key components, and sustained investment, pushing China’s space economy toward large-scale industrialisation.
Emerging areas such as low-Earth orbit satellite constellations, satellite internet, space-based computing, and integration with 6G networks are expected to fuel further growth.
The Satellite Town initiative is seen as part of China’s broader strategy to position itself as a global leader in the space economy, leveraging infrastructure and policy support to compete with established players in the industry.
