Former Delivery Driver Sentenced to Death for Killing 7-Year-Old Girl in Texas
A former FedEx delivery driver has been sentenced to death after pleading guilty to the abduction and killing of a 7-year-old girl in the U.S. state of Texas.

The convict, Tanner Horner, admitted to kidnapping the child, Athena Strand, from her home in 2022 while delivering a Christmas package. Authorities said he took the girl after she approached his delivery truck, before later killing her and disposing of her body.
Prosecutors described the crime as premeditated and brutal, noting that the victim’s body was recovered days after she was reported missing, triggering a widespread search that drew national attention.
Horner pleaded guilty in court, a move that expedited sentencing. The judge subsequently handed down the death penalty, in line with Texas law for capital murder involving the abduction and killing of a child.
The case sparked renewed debate in the United States over background checks, delivery worker screening, and capital punishment, particularly as e-commerce deliveries continue to expand into residential areas.
Authorities say the sentence brings a measure of justice to the victim’s family, though the case continues to resonate as one of the most disturbing child abduction incidents in recent U.S. history.
