Bennett, Lapid Form New Party to Challenge Netanyahu

Former prime ministers Naftali Bennett and Yair Lapid have announced a new political alliance aimed at unseating incumbent Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The two leaders said they will merge their respective parties to form a new political platform called “Together,” combining Bennett’s right-wing base with Lapid’s centrist support in a bid to consolidate opposition forces ahead of future elections.

In a joint announcement, Bennett and Lapid framed the move as a strategic effort to break what they described as prolonged political stagnation under Netanyahu’s leadership. The alliance is expected to position itself as a broad, cross-ideological alternative capable of attracting voters from both the conservative and moderate blocs.

Both men previously led a power-sharing government in 2021 that temporarily removed Netanyahu from office, before its collapse triggered another round of political uncertainty.

Analysts say the creation of the “Together” party could significantly reshape Israel’s opposition landscape if it succeeds in unifying fragmented parties and presenting a cohesive electoral challenge.

Netanyahu, who leads a right-wing coalition, has yet to publicly respond to the development.
