Blasts Hit Central Damascus Near Hotel Linked to President Macron Visit
Two explosions have struck central Damascus close to a hotel associated with French President Emmanuel Macron’s recent stay, leaving several people injured.

The incident occurred on Tuesday while security personnel were attempting to neutralise explosive devices discovered in the area. Officials confirmed that Macron was not at the location at the time, as he had already proceeded to the Presidential Palace for scheduled engagements.
Authorities reported that the explosives were locally assembled and concealed in separate locations, including a vehicle parked along the roadside and a waste container near a government facility. Both sites are situated within a busy district of the capital known to host diplomats, humanitarian workers and foreign visitors.
At least 18 individuals sustained injuries in the blasts, among them security officers involved in the operation. Emergency teams responded promptly, securing the area and attending to the wounded.
Preliminary findings indicate that the explosions occurred outside the designated security zone for the visiting French leader. Investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and to identify those responsible.
The development comes amid heightened security concerns in Damascus, following a series of recent attacks in the city. Macron’s visit marks a significant diplomatic engagement as international relations with Syria continue to evolve
