Kenyan Court Jails Man 40 Years for Killing Employer in Eldoret
A High Court in Eldoret has sentenced a 36-year-old man to 40 years in prison for the murder of his employer in a case that shocked residents of Uasin Gishu County.

The convict, identified as Silas Sang, was found guilty of killing his 72-year-old employer, Hellen Biwott, at her home in April 2022. The court ruled that the prosecution had proven the case beyond reasonable doubt.
According to court proceedings, Sang—who worked as a herdsman—attacked the victim inside her residence, fatally injuring her before fleeing the scene. He was later arrested after a manhunt by detectives.
Delivering judgment, Justice Reuben Nyakundi said the severity of the crime warranted a lengthy custodial sentence, noting that the killing was brutal and unjustified.
During mitigation, the convict pleaded for leniency, attributing his actions to personal and family-related issues, but the court dismissed the explanation and proceeded with sentencing.
The case highlights ongoing concerns over violent crime in parts of Kenya, even as authorities continue to push for stronger law enforcement and judicial accountability.
