Nigeria Make Olympic History, Secure Beach Volleyball Ticket for Los Angeles 2028
Nigeria’s women’s beach volleyball team has secured a historic place at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles after defeating Morocco 2-0 in the final of the 2026 CAVB Women’s Beach Volleyball Championship in Alexandria, Egypt.
The Nigerian pair dominated both sets, winning 21-17 and 21-10 to claim the continental title and earn Nigeria its first-ever qualification for the Olympic beach volleyball event. The victory came after an earlier 2-0 semifinal win over Mozambique, with Nigeria taking both sets 21-17.
The qualification marks a breakthrough for Nigerian beach volleyball after previous near-misses at the continental championship. Nigeria had reached the final on three earlier occasions but finished as runners-up each time, making Saturday’s victory a significant milestone for the team and the Nigeria Volleyball Federation.
With the African title now secured, the Nigerian women will represent the country at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, adding a new chapter to Nigeria’s Olympic sporting history. The achievement also provides a major boost to the development and visibility of beach volleyball in the country ahead of the Games.
