Nigeria Warns of Tougher Measures Against Terrorism Support Networks
Nigeria’s defence authorities have warned that individuals found supporting extremist groups could face the same legal consequences as those directly involved in violent activities, in a renewed push to curb insurgency.

The statement was attributed to Christopher Musa, who emphasized the need to dismantle not only armed groups but also the networks that enable their operations.
According to him, addressing insecurity requires targeting financiers, informants, and logistical backers who provide support behind the scenes. He stressed that such actions undermine national security and prolong violence affecting communities across the country.
Security analysts say the position reflects a broader strategy by the Nigerian military to weaken insurgent groups by cutting off supply chains, intelligence leaks, and funding sources.
Nigeria has battled armed insurgency for over a decade, particularly in the northeast, where groups such as Boko Haram and ISWAP continue to stage attacks despite sustained military operations.
Officials say increased collaboration with local communities and stricter enforcement measures will be key to reducing the influence and operational capacity of these groups.
