President Tinubu Reaffirms Commitment to Peace as Muslim World League Holds Abuja Security Summit
President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to promoting peace, religious tolerance and national unity as the Muslim World League, in partnership with the Jama’atu Izalatil Bidiah Wa Iqamatus Sunnah (JIBWIS), holds an international security conference in Abuja.
The conference, scheduled for Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, is expected to bring together religious leaders, policymakers and other stakeholders to examine security challenges, peaceful coexistence, national unity and socio-economic development. Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, announced the event on Monday during the inauguration of a newly constructed mosque in Abuja attended by the Secretary-General of the Muslim World League, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa.
Idris said the conference was taking place at a significant period for Nigeria as the government continues to pursue security measures and economic reforms. He stressed that peace and stability were essential to the country’s development and noted that Nigeria, as Africa’s most populous nation, has an important role to play in promoting stability across West Africa and the wider continent. He said the gathering would provide an opportunity for religious and other leaders to exchange ideas on strengthening security, dialogue and understanding among people of different faiths.
The minister also commended the Muslim World League, JIBWIS and the Saudi Arabian government for facilitating the visit of Sheikh Al-Issa and the establishment of the mosque. Al-Issa, in turn, praised efforts to strengthen peaceful relations between Muslims and people of other faiths in Nigeria, describing peace in the country as important to stability across the region. The summit is expected to explore practical measures for addressing contemporary security concerns while advancing religious harmony, national cohesion and sustainable development.
