Sudan Army Says Pre-Emptive Strike Killed RSF Fighters in Blue Nile
Sudan’s army says it carried out a “well-planned” pre-emptive attack in the southeastern Blue Nile region, killing several fighters from the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and destroying nine combat vehicles.
The Defence Ministry said the operation took place south of Al-Keili in Kurmuk locality and was based on what it described as “precise intelligence.” It said army forces and allied units inflicted heavy losses on the RSF and destroyed the vehicles along with their equipment.
The ministry claimed the operation significantly weakened the RSF’s combat capability in the area and disrupted its presence there.
The RSF had not immediately commented on the army’s account, and the reported casualties could not be independently verified.
The fighting comes amid increased military activity in Blue Nile, where the RSF has carried out drone attacks on Damazin, the state capital. The army has also reported clashes around the strategic Jabal Kadam area involving the RSF and its ally, the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North.
The latest clashes are part of Sudan’s wider conflict between the army and the RSF, which began in April 2023 and has killed tens of thousands of people and displaced millions.
