Anthony Joshua Crash Trial Adjourned Again as Driver Faces Four Charges
The trial of Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, the driver involved in the crash that injured Anthony Joshua and killed two members of the boxer’s team, has been further adjourned to November 17 by a Magistrate Court in Ogun State.
Kayode, 46, is facing four charges connected to the December 2025 accident, including dangerous driving causing death, reckless and negligent driving, driving without due care and attention, and driving without a valid national driver’s licence. He has pleaded not guilty to the allegations.
The case stems from a crash on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway near Makun, Sagamu, where the Lexus SUV carrying Joshua and his team struck a stationary truck during an overtaking manoeuvre. Joshua survived the accident with injuries, while his personal trainer, Latif Ayodele, and strength and conditioning coach, Sina Ghami, died.
Earlier investigations by the Federal Road Safety Corps indicated that excessive speed and loss of control during the overtaking manoeuvre may have contributed to the crash. Police also told the court that the vehicles had been moved from the scene before investigators arrived, potentially complicating the examination of the accident.
Kayode was initially arraigned in January and granted bail of N5 million with two sureties. With the latest adjournment, the court proceedings will continue nearly a year after the crash, as prosecutors pursue the case and the accused driver remains before the court.
