Bank of America Vice President Killed in Random Times Square Stabbing
A 32-year-old Bank of America vice president has been fatally stabbed in what New York police described as a random and unprovoked attack in the heart of Times Square.
Erin Piacenti was attacked at about 4:24 p.m. on Monday, August 31, near West 42nd Street and Seventh Avenue. A 68-year-old man was also stabbed in the incident and remains hospitalised in stable condition.
Police identified the alleged attacker as 49-year-old Pamela Cisneros, who they said was carrying two large knives. Officers attempted to stop her with a Taser after confronting her, but she continued advancing towards them with the weapons. Police then shot her, and she later died in hospital.
Authorities said there was no indication that the attack was terrorism-related and that Piacenti did not appear to have been specifically targeted. Police also said Cisneros had a documented history of mental-health issues, although she had no known arrest record.
Piacenti worked in Bank of America’s Business Selection and Conflicts unit and had joined the bank about 18 months ago. She was also a graduate of Fordham Law School, having completed her degree in 2021. Bank of America expressed shock over her death and said its security teams were assisting investigators.
The attack occurred in one of New York City’s busiest tourist and commercial districts during the afternoon rush, temporarily disrupting parts of Times Square as police secured the scene and investigated the incident.
The killing has renewed attention on the unpredictable nature of violent attacks in crowded public spaces, even as New York City has recorded an overall decline in violent crime. For investigators, the immediate focus remains establishing what prompted the attack and whether Cisneros had any identifiable motive beyond the apparently random assault.
