Dangote Refinery IPO Attracts Investors From 51 African Countries
Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals has attracted investor subscriptions from 51 of Africa’s 54 countries, with participation extending to more than 90 countries worldwide, the company has announced.

The refinery described the ongoing initial public offering (IPO) as Africa’s first truly pan-African public offering, highlighting efforts to expand African ownership of major industrial assets.
According to the company, the share offer set a record in Nigeria’s capital market on its opening day and surpassed the previous African public-offering record within its first 10 days.
Demand has reportedly come from individual investors, pension funds, institutional investors, asset managers and fintech platforms.
Dangote Group’s Chief Financial Officer, Murat Erden, said the offer provides African and international investors an opportunity to participate in the ownership of one of the continent’s major industrial projects.
The IPO opened on September 14 and has been extended to October 27, 2026, to give more prospective investors time to complete account-opening, identity-verification and regulatory procedures.
However, the offer’s pan-African reach faces practical limitations. The share sale is registered as a public offering in Nigeria, meaning investors in other countries must navigate applicable local regulations and available investment channels.
The refinery is seeking to broaden ownership of its 700,000-barrel-per-day facility and raise funds to support its expansion.
The level of participation across African countries highlights growing interest in cross-border investment, while also exposing the regulatory and market-access barriers that continue to complicate investment across the continent.
