Dangote Refinery Targets 130 Crude Grades as Operations Expand
The Dangote Refinery is planning to expand its crude processing capacity to handle up to 130 different crude oil grades, according to recent industry reports.

The development was disclosed in reports citing company executives, who noted that the refinery currently processes about 40 crude grades but aims to significantly increase that number as operations scale.
Officials said the expansion is part of a broader strategy to enhance flexibility in sourcing crude from global markets, including the Middle East, the United States, and other regions. This would allow the refinery to optimize production and participate more actively in crude blending and trading activities.
Industry experts note that refining a wide range of crude types places the facility among highly complex global refineries, improving its ability to respond to market dynamics and pricing variations. The refinery, owned by Aliko Dangote, is already one of the largest single-train refineries in the world, with a capacity of about 650,000 barrels per day.
The move is expected to strengthen Nigeria’s downstream petroleum sector by reducing dependence on imported refined products while boosting export potential across Africa and beyond.
Further updates on the refinery’s expansion plans and crude sourcing strategy are expected as it moves toward full operational optimization.
