Ex-Vice President Atiku Pays ₦90m for Opposition Presidential Form Ahead of 2027 Race

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has confirmed that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has paid ₦90 million for its 2027 presidential nomination form, marking an early step in his anticipated bid for Nigeria’s top office.

The party disclosed that Atiku has already received an official payment receipt dated May 8, 2026, confirming completion of the transaction through a bank draft.

According to the ADC, the development signals a significant moment in its political positioning ahead of the 2027 general election, as it seeks to establish itself as a viable alternative platform in Nigeria’s evolving opposition landscape.

The party also stated that the formal presentation of the nomination form is scheduled to take place at its national secretariat in Abuja, where further political activities are expected to follow.

Atiku, a veteran politician and multiple-time presidential contender, is once again positioning himself for a return bid, as early alignments and internal party movements begin to shape the 2027 race.

However, the development comes amid ongoing internal disputes within the ADC, including legal challenges over party leadership and structure, which could influence the broader opposition strategy.

The payment underscores the gradual intensification of political activities in Nigeria, even as the next general election cycle remains over a year away.
