Government Enforces New Restrictions on Importation of Used Vehicles

Ghana has commenced the enforcement of new regulations restricting the importation of used vehicles as part of efforts to improve road safety and enhance standards in the automotive sector.

Government Enforces New Restrictions on Importation of Used Vehicles

Under the new policy, vehicles older than 10 years are no longer permitted for import into the country. Authorities have also introduced mandatory pre-shipment inspections to ensure that all imported vehicles meet established safety and environmental requirements.

The regulations further prohibit the entry of vehicles that have sustained significant damage, including those affected by flooding, fire, or severe structural issues. In addition, vehicles originally manufactured with right-hand drive are not allowed under the new rules.

Officials say the measures are designed to protect consumers, reduce the circulation of unsafe vehicles on Ghanaian roads, and strengthen overall quality standards within the country’s used-car market.
