Australia Maintains Dominant Lead as Nigeria Emerges Africa’s Top Performer at Commonwealth Games
Australia continued to assert its dominance at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, extending its lead on the medal table as the competition progressed into its ninth day. The country has amassed a total of 125 medals, including 55 gold, 28 silver, and 42 bronze, maintaining a significant advantage over other participating nations.
The latest boost to Australia’s tally came from multiple gold medal performances across track cycling and athletics events. Victories in endurance cycling races, middle-distance track events, and para-cycling competitions further strengthened its position at the top.
Canada remained in second place but at a considerable distance, adding to its medal count through strong performances in judo events across different weight categories. Other countries, including Wales, England, India, Scotland, and Malaysia, also secured gold medals in various disciplines, reflecting a diverse spread of success across the Games.
Nigeria, meanwhile, continues to lead among African nations, holding fifth position overall. The country has so far recorded 16 medals, made up of eight gold, five silver, and three bronze, underscoring a strong showing across multiple events.
