Haiti Become First Team Eliminated from 2026 World Cup After Brazil Defeat
Haiti has become the first team to be eliminated from the 2026 FIFA World Cup after a 3–0 defeat to Brazil in their Group C clash, ending their hopes of progressing to the knockout stage.

The Caribbean side’s exit was confirmed following Brazil’s dominant victory, with Matheus Cunha scoring twice and Vinícius Júnior adding a third to seal the result.
Haiti had earlier lost 1–0 to Scotland in their opening group match, leaving them without a point after two games. With other results in the group—particularly Morocco’s win over Scotland—Haiti was mathematically unable to qualify for the next round even before their final group fixture.
Under the expanded 48-team format of the 2026 tournament, the top two teams from each group and the eight best third-placed teams advance to the round of 32. However, Haiti’s back-to-back defeats left them rooted at the bottom of Group C, making them the first nation officially knocked out of the competition.
Despite the early exit, Haiti’s participation marked a historic return to the World Cup, their first appearance since 1974. Team officials and analysts have noted the squad’s resilience, even as they struggled against stronger opposition in the group stage.
Haiti will now play their final group match as a formality, while attention shifts to the remaining teams battling for qualification to the knockout rounds.
