Government Warns US Over Taiwan Arms Sales Ahead of Trump’s Beijing Visit
China has reiterated its strong opposition to United States arms sales to Taiwan, urging Washington to honour its longstanding commitments ahead of a planned summit involving Donald Trump in Beijing.

In a statement, Chinese officials said such military support to Taiwan undermines China’s sovereignty and violates the principles underpinning bilateral relations between Beijing and Washington. The government called on the US to adhere to the “One China” policy and halt any actions that could escalate tensions in the region.
The warning comes as preparations intensify for high-level talks expected to address trade, security, and geopolitical concerns between the two powers. Analysts say the Taiwan issue remains one of the most sensitive flashpoints in US-China relations.
Washington has maintained that its arms sales to Taiwan are consistent with existing laws and aimed at supporting the island’s self-defense capabilities. However, Beijing views Taiwan as a breakaway province and has repeatedly opposed any form of military cooperation between the US and the island.
The renewed exchange highlights ongoing friction between the two countries, even as both sides signal willingness to engage diplomatically during the upcoming summit.
