Nigerian Correctional Service Denies ₦120m Theft Claim at Kuje Facility
The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has dismissed reports alleging that an inmate at the Kuje Medium Security’s Custodial Centre was robbed of valuables worth over ₦120 million during a recent search operation.

In an official statement, the Service described the claim as “false and misleading,” stressing that it does not align with established procedures governing custodial facilities.
Authorities clarified that what occurred at the facility was a routine security search conducted in line with standard operating procedures aimed at maintaining order, discipline, and safety within the prison.
The NCoS stated that all items recovered during the operation were properly documented, adding that inmates are not permitted to keep unauthorized valuables or large sums of money while in custody.
It further noted that there is no official record indicating that the alleged valuables were declared by the inmate upon admission or found during the search.
Additionally, the Service said no formal complaint of theft had been filed through any official channel by the inmate or other individuals connected to the facility.
The response follows viral reports claiming that high-value personal items were seized during the operation. However, correctional authorities insist the custodial centre remains secure and that the allegations are unfounded.
