Nigerian Entrepreneur Reportedly Registers Uber.com.ng After Uber Exit
Nigerian entrepreneur Muyiwa Lawrence has reportedly registered the domain name Uber.com.ng, a day after global ride-hailing company Uber ended its operations in Nigeria.
The reported registration came on September 3, 2026, shortly after Uber announced that it would wind down its ride-hailing services in Nigeria and Uganda, citing changing business priorities.
Lawrence is the founder and chief executive officer of Caregivers.ng, a Nigerian organisation that provides professional caregiving training and support services. He is also the CEO of Mattress.ng, an online mattress business.
In June, Vanguard reported that Caregivers.ng had joined the American Caregiver Association, expanding its access to international caregiving resources and professional development opportunities.
The reported acquisition of Uber.com.ng has generated speculation over Lawrence’s intentions, particularly following Uber’s departure from a market it had operated in since 2014.
However, there is no indication that Lawrence is affiliated with Uber or has acquired the company’s Nigerian operations. There is also no confirmed announcement that he intends to use the domain to launch a ride-hailing service.
Uber said its decision to leave Nigeria was part of a broader review of its business priorities and investment focus. The company stressed that its exit from Nigeria and Uganda did not represent a withdrawal from the wider sub-Saharan African market.
Lawrence’s reported domain registration therefore remains a potentially significant development, but what he intends to do with the name remains unclear.
