Nigeria’s Admissions Board Digitalises Preparation for 2027 University Entrance Exam
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is moving part of the 2027 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) preparation process to candidates’ mobile phones with a new digital pre-registration platform. The National Digital Pre-Registration App will allow prospective candidates to prepare key registration details before visiting accredited centres.
The platform will enable candidates to review courses and institutions, check eligibility, select subject combinations and verify personal information, including details linked to their National Identification Numbers. It is designed to work across different mobile devices and can reportedly be used without an active internet connection, while a scanning feature will help identify common errors.
Under the new arrangement, candidates will still have to visit approved Computer-Based Test and Professional Registration Centres to complete registration and verification. However, much of the decision-making will take place before the physical visit, a move JAMB expects to reduce congestion, registration mistakes and later requests to change courses, institutions or subject combinations.
The initiative is part of JAMB’s wider effort to use technology to improve UTME services, alongside biometric verification and electronic payments. The board also expects the system to give parents and guardians more opportunity to assist candidates before registration, while making the process less dependent on rushed decisions at registration centres.
