Police uncover suspected baby factory in Ogun, rescue pregnant women, children
Police in Ogun State have uncovered a suspected baby factory in Mowe, rescuing two pregnant women and four children and arresting six suspects.
The operation was carried out on August 24 at Abaren Village, following intelligence on alleged human trafficking and illegal adoption activities at the facility.
The rescued women, aged 23 and 20, were reportedly seven and eight months pregnant. The four children recovered comprised two boys and two girls.
Police said a follow-up operation also led officers to a hospital in the Mowe area, where another woman had given birth to a baby boy on August 20. The newborn’s whereabouts could not initially be accounted for, prompting the arrest of an attending nurse.
The six suspects arrested include five alleged members of the syndicate and a nurse. They are being investigated over suspected human trafficking and illegal adoption.
The Ogun State Police Command said the case has been transferred for further investigation to establish the full extent of the alleged operation, locate the missing newborn and prosecute anyone found culpable.
