Sadio Mané Backs $20m Agro-Industrial Project to Expand Mango Value Chain in Senegal
Senegalese footballer Sadio Mané is putting an estimated $20 million into an agricultural project designed to turn mango production in his home village of Bambali into a larger processing and export business.
The project, being developed through Mané’s SM10 Agro, will cover about 500 hectares in southern Senegal. It will combine mango cultivation with processing facilities, an agricultural training centre and research activities.
The investment is expected to create more than 1,000 direct jobs while giving farmers and workers opportunities beyond the seasonal production of raw fruit. The processing plant is projected to handle up to 8,500 tonnes of mangoes each year.
Instead of sending mangoes to market mainly as fresh produce, the project will produce processed goods including mango pulp, dried mango and mango butter. Such processing could allow more value to be retained locally while creating products for both domestic and international markets.
The agricultural training and research components are also expected to support skills development and improve production methods, potentially strengthening the wider farming ecosystem around Bambali.
The project reflects a broader shift towards using agricultural processing to create jobs and increase the economic value of local crops. For Bambali, its impact will ultimately depend on how effectively the investment links farmers, workers, processors and export markets into a sustainable value chain.
