TikTok Access Problems Spread Across Northern Nigeria, Cause Remains Unclear
TikTok users in parts of northern Nigeria are facing continued difficulty accessing the platform, with reports from Kaduna, Kano and Sokoto raising concerns over a disruption that has persisted for nearly two weeks.
Users have reported problems loading videos, refreshing their feeds and uploading content since around September 14. Some said access was restored after connecting to the platform through virtual private networks, although this does not establish whether the service is being deliberately restricted.
There has been no public confirmation of a nationwide or regional TikTok ban from Nigerian telecommunications regulators, network operators or the platform. The cause of the disruption therefore remains uncertain, with technical faults, network routing problems, traffic management and possible interference among the explanations being considered.
The disruption could have wider consequences for creators and small businesses that use TikTok to reach customers, promote products and generate income. The platform has become an important channel for digital entertainment and online commerce, particularly for businesses that depend on social media visibility.
Until regulators, telecommunications companies or TikTok provide an explanation, it remains unclear whether the reported access problems are linked to a technical network issue or something more deliberate.
