Türkiye Mourns Victims of Nigerian Military Aircraft Crash

Türkiye has expressed deep sadness over the loss of lives in the Nigerian Air Force aircraft crash in Ondo State on October 5.

Türkiye Mourns Victims of Nigerian Military Aircraft Crash

In a statement, Türkiye’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs extended condolences to the families of those killed and to the people of Nigeria, describing the incident as a tragic accident.

The Nigerian Air Force ATR-42 aircraft crashed near Igbokoda Naval Base while on a routine mission from Benin to Lagos. The latest Air Force account says 25 people—20 passengers and five crew members—were on board, with no survivors. Earlier official reports had given a higher figure, but the Air Force’s latest statement puts the total at 25.

President Bola Tinubu declared three days of national mourning and ordered a thorough investigation into the cause of the crash.

Türkiye’s message adds to international expressions of solidarity with Nigeria as investigations continue into one of the country’s deadliest recent military aviation accidents.
