United Nigeria Airlines Grounds Aircraft After Fifth Bird Strike Incident
United Nigeria Airlines has grounded one of its aircraft following a fifth reported bird strike incident, raising fresh concerns over aviation safety and wildlife hazards at airports in Nigeria.

The airline confirmed that the aircraft was taken out of service for mandatory safety inspection after the latest incident, in line with standard aviation protocols.
Bird strikes occur when birds collide with aircraft during takeoff or landing, often causing damage to engines or critical flight components. While many incidents are minor, repeated occurrences can pose significant operational and safety risks.
Aviation experts say the recurrence highlights the need for stronger wildlife management measures around airports, including improved monitoring systems and habitat control to reduce bird activity near runways.
Nigeria’s aviation sector has previously recorded similar incidents across multiple carriers, prompting regulators to reinforce safety guidelines and runway inspection procedures.
The airline assured passengers that safety remains its top priority and said normal operations will resume once the aircraft is cleared for service after technical assessment.
