Aston Villa End 30-Year Trophy Drought with Commanding Europa League Final Victory Over Freiburg
Aston Villa have ended a 30-year wait for a major trophy after a dominant 3–0 win over SC Freiburg in the UEFA Europa League final on Wednesday in Istanbul.

The English side produced a disciplined and clinical performance, with standout moments from Youri Tielemans, Emiliano Buendia, and Morgan Rogers sealing a historic night for the club.
Villa broke the deadlock just before half-time when Tielemans struck a powerful volley from inside the box, finishing off a well-worked set-piece move.
Moments later, Buendia doubled the lead with a superb curling effort from outside the area, leaving Freiburg’s goalkeeper with no chance as Villa went into the break firmly in control.
The Premier League side maintained their dominance in the second half, and Morgan Rogers added the third goal in the 58th minute, converting from close range after a well-delivered assist from Buendia.
Freiburg struggled to respond throughout the encounter, as Unai Emery’s side controlled possession and limited the German club’s attacking threat.
The victory secured Aston Villa’s first European trophy in 44 years and their first major silverware since the 1996 League Cup, marking a significant milestone in the club’s modern history.
It also continued manager Unai Emery’s remarkable record in the competition, as he secured a fifth Europa League title, having previously won it multiple times with Sevilla and Villarreal.
The win was celebrated by thousands of Villa supporters in Istanbul, with high-profile fans including members of the British royal family and international celebrities also in attendance.
Villa’s triumph caps a remarkable resurgence under Emery, who has transformed the club since taking charge in 2022, guiding them from relegation struggles to European success.
