Dangote Foundation Offers Students Free Shares to Promote Early Investment
The Aliko Dangote Foundation has introduced a programme that will allow eligible Nigerian students to receive additional shares in Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals after making their own initial investment, in an effort to encourage early participation in the capital market.

Under the Student Share Grant Initiative, students aged 18 and above in recognised public and private tertiary institutions can qualify for 10 additional shares after subscribing for at least 10 shares in the company’s ongoing initial public offering and completing the required verification process.
The programme is designed to give young Nigerians practical experience with investment, from registration and subscription to share ownership. The Foundation said the initiative is intended to complement financial education by allowing students to apply what they learn about saving, investing and asset ownership in a real market setting.
The scheme is open to eligible students nationwide, but participation is voluntary. The Foundation said the additional shares are limited to students who meet the programme’s requirements and participate through its designated platform. The offer cannot be transferred to another person or used to acquire shares in other companies.
The initiative also comes as Nigeria seeks to deepen participation in its capital market and improve financial literacy among young people. By introducing students to share ownership at an early stage, the Foundation is seeking to encourage longer-term engagement with formal investment rather than limiting financial education to classroom knowledge.
The Foundation has stressed that the initiative should not be regarded as investment advice or a recommendation to buy the shares. Students are expected to review the IPO documents and make their own decisions before participating.
