Schools Release Students Early Following Reports of Institutional Unrest
Several secondary schools in Kenya have sent learners home ahead of schedule following growing concerns over unrest within some learning institutions.

The affected schools include Moi Girls Nairobi, Sironga Girls National School in Nyamira County, and Kisii School, all of which issued urgent notices on Saturday, June 6, 2026, instructing parents and guardians to pick up their children immediately or make arrangements for their safe return home.
In the notices circulated to parents, the school administrations stated that the decision followed consultations with their Boards of Management, Parents Associations, and relevant education authorities. The move was described as a precautionary step aimed at ensuring student safety and maintaining order within the academic environment.
Moi Girls Nairobi indicated that learners would be granted a short break as a preventive measure in response to concerns about rising tension in schools. Parents were directed to collect their children from 8 a.m., with assurances that further updates on resumption would be communicated in due course.
At Sironga Girls National School, parents were instructed to urgently retrieve their daughters following what the school described as a disruption to normal school activities, while Kisii School also announced the release of students after internal consultations with its Board of Management.
Although the institutions did not provide detailed explanations of the incidents that triggered the closures, the simultaneous timing of the announcements has raised concerns among stakeholders, suggesting a wider pattern of unrest in some schools.
The development comes amid increasing reports of disturbances in secondary schools across the country, prompting administrators to adopt precautionary measures to protect learners and restore stability.
