Seplat Targets One Million Trees by 2030, Expands Community-Based Conservation
Seplat Energy has set its sights on planting one million trees by 2030 after its Tree4Life environmental programme reached 200,000 trees, as the indigenous energy company seeks to expand reforestation and biodiversity conservation efforts. The initiative is designed to restore degraded landscapes, support climate action and promote environmental sustainability in communities where the programme operates.

Beyond tree planting, the programme has created economic opportunities for more than 350 community members involved in activities such as nursery management, site preparation, planting and logistics. The company said the initiative also promotes sustainable agricultural practices and equips participating communities with skills to support long-term environmental conservation.
Seplat plans to expand the programme from 2026, with greater emphasis on maintaining planted trees, monitoring their survival and replacing those that fail to grow. It also intends to strengthen biodiversity assessments and improve the measurement of carbon absorption to evaluate the programme’s environmental impact against recognised standards.
The company said collaboration with host communities and other stakeholders would remain central to achieving its 2030 target. Through the Tree4Life Programme, Seplat aims to link environmental restoration with community development, while contributing to broader efforts to address climate change and protect ecosystems for future generations.
