Trial Continues Today for Driver Carrying Anthony Joshua During Fatal Crash
The trial of the driver accused in the fatal crash involving British-Nigerian boxer Anthony Joshua is set to continue on Thursday, September 10, in Ogun State, Nigeria.
The December 29, 2025 crash on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway killed two of Joshua’s close associates, personal trainer Latif “Latz” Ayodele and strength and conditioning coach Sina Ghami. Joshua, who was travelling in the vehicle, survived with minor injuries.
The driver, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, faces charges including dangerous and reckless driving, causing death and driving without a valid licence eventhough he pleaded not guilty. The case has been adjourned several times since he was first arraigned in January.
Earlier proceedings focused on allegations that the vehicle was travelling at excessive speed before it lost control and crashed into a stationary truck. Preliminary findings by Nigerian traffic authorities also pointed to speeding and a tyre burst as contributing factors.
The case has attracted renewed attention because Joshua’s family previously questioned whether prosecuting the driver was necessary, describing the crash as a tragedy rather than an intentional act. However, prosecutors have continued with the case.
A separate legal development has also emerged, with authorities moving to prosecute the driver of the stationary truck involved in the collision.
Thursday’s proceedings are expected to provide further evidence on the circumstances surrounding the crash and determine the next stage of the trial. The case remains ongoing, and the accused is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
