US Military Technology Key to Nigeria’s Counter-terrorism Efforts, Defence Minister Says
Nigeria’s efforts to tackle terrorism, banditry and other security threats are receiving a boost from advanced military technology and intelligence support from the United States, Defence Minister Christopher Musa has said.

Musa made this known during a meeting with Nigeria’s Ambassador to the US, Kayode Are, at the Nigerian Embassy in Washington, D.C., where both officials discussed ways to strengthen bilateral defence cooperation. He highlighted the growing importance of unmanned aerial systems, satellite intelligence and other modern technologies to ongoing military operations.
The meeting also focused on improving intelligence sharing, technical training and equipment support for the Armed Forces of Nigeria, while addressing emerging security challenges across the Sahel. Musa stressed that Nigeria’s engagement with international partners would continue alongside its efforts to diversify defence relationships, with national sovereignty remaining central to such partnerships.
Are, in turn, pledged the embassy’s support in facilitating stronger defence cooperation between both countries. Musa later inspected the embassy’s Defence Section and commended the personnel for their work. The visit formed part of a week-long trip to Washington by a Federal Government delegation led by National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, with discussions centred on strengthening Nigeria’s security capabilities.
