Authorities Detain Opposition Lawyer Linked to Treason Trial
Ugandan security operatives have arrested Erias Lukwago, a prominent opposition figure and legal representative of detained political leader Kizza Besigye, according to his party.

Lukwago, a former mayor of Kampala, was reportedly taken into custody at his residence under circumstances that have raised concern among opposition groups. His party stated that he was moved to an undisclosed location shortly after his arrest.
The detained lawyer is part of Besigye’s legal team in an ongoing treason case. He is also involved in a separate legal action challenging alleged threats made against his client by senior military officials.
Opposition figures have linked the arrest to tensions surrounding the case, alleging that it may be connected to efforts to serve legal documents on a high-ranking military officer. However, these claims have not been independently confirmed.
Authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the arrest, and attempts to obtain comments from security agencies have so far been unsuccessful.
The development has heightened political tensions, with concerns raised over due process, the rule of law, and the treatment of opposition figures in the country.
