Cameroon Defeat Super Falcons to Reach WAFCON Semi-Finals, Secure World Cup Qualification
The Super Falcons were eliminated from the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations after a 1–0 defeat to Cameroon in their quarter-final encounter on Sunday in Casablanca.
The result ends their campaign and denies them direct qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
Cameroon secured victory through an early goal by 19-year-old Myriam Nyadjou, who converted a free kick in the 19th minute. Her strike proved decisive, despite sustained pressure from Nigeria for much of the match.
Nigeria, record winners of the tournament, pushed for an equaliser in the closing stages but were repeatedly denied by goalkeeper Michaely Bihina, whose saves preserved Cameroon’s lead. The closest opportunity came deep into stoppage time when Esther Okoronkwo advanced on goal, but her effort went just wide.
Forward Asisat Oshoala, introduced late in the game, was unable to influence the outcome as Cameroon held on to progress.
The victory sends Cameroon into the semi-finals, where they will face host nation Morocco, and also confirms their qualification for the 2027 Women’s World Cup.
Nigeria will now have to rely on the play-off route to keep their hopes of appearing at the global tournament alive.
