Over 103 Million Nigerians Now Registered to Vote in 2027
More than 103 million Nigerians are now on the national voter register ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced.

INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, disclosed the figure on October 5 at a strategic workshop for media executives in Abuja. He said the increase followed the completion of a three-phase Continuous Voter Registration exercise, which recorded 10,772,421 new registrations, alongside a final biometric clean-up of the register.
The new figure represents a significant increase from the 93.47 million registered voters recorded for the 2023 general elections. INEC says the latest register has undergone Automated Biometric Identification System checks aimed at removing duplicate and irregular records.
The electoral commission has also announced that nationwide collection of newly produced Permanent Voter Cards will begin on October 9, 2026, with cards being distributed through Local Government Area collection centres. Voters will also have an opportunity to inspect the register and raise claims or objections.
INEC is simultaneously strengthening its election technology, including the acquisition of 57,000 new Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) devices, as preparations continue for the presidential and National Assembly elections scheduled for January 16, 2027.
With more than 103 million names now on the register, attention will increasingly shift from registration numbers to how many voters collect their cards, participate in the election and how effectively INEC can maintain the integrity of the register.
