Peter Obi Emerges Unopposed as NDC Closes Presidential Nomination Sales
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has closed the sale of Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms for its 2027 presidential ticket, with former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, emerging as the only aspirant who reportedly obtained the forms.

Party officials confirmed that the presidential nomination window has been shut, while the sale of forms for other elective positions, including governorship, National Assembly, and state assemblies, has been extended by one week.
According to the party’s timetable, screening of aspirants will take place from May 19 to May 26, 2026, while collection and submission of nomination forms for cleared candidates will run from May 20 to May 26.
The NDC stated that no further extension will be granted and urged all aspirants to comply strictly with its guidelines, including submission of required documents such as academic certificates, voter’s card, party membership records, and curriculum vitae.
With the closure of the presidential nomination process, Obi is expected to emerge as the party’s consensus candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections, subject to completion of screening and clearance procedures.
