President Tinubu Condemns Death of Retired General, Rules Out Talks With Terrorists
Bola Ahmed Tinubu has condemned the death of retired Major-General Rabe Abubakar, who died while in captivity after being abducted by bandits in Katsina State, declaring that Nigeria will not negotiate with terrorists.

In a statement released on Saturday, the president described the incident as a painful loss to the nation and a stark reminder of the ongoing security challenges. He warned that bandits, kidnappers, and their sponsors must surrender or face decisive military action.
Tinubu reiterated his administration’s hardline stance, stressing that engaging in negotiations with terrorist groups would only embolden further violence. He said the killing of the retired general should serve as a turning point in Nigeria’s fight against insurgency and criminal gangs.
The late general was reportedly abducted alongside his wife in late May while travelling in Katsina, with security forces launching efforts to secure their release before his death in captivity.
Authorities confirmed that despite rescue efforts, the situation ended tragically, adding to growing concerns over the safety of even high-profile individuals amid Nigeria’s widening insecurity crisis.
