Russian Strikes Hit Port Facilities in Ukraine’s Mykolaiv Region
At least one person has been confirmed dead following a series of Russian drone strikes targeting port infrastructure in Ukraine’s southern Mykolaiv region. Local authorities reported that the fatality occurred during an early morning attack, with additional casualties also recorded, though the exact number of those injured has not been disclosed.
The strikes, which took place over the weekend and into Monday, also caused damage to several civilian vessels stationed at the port. According to Ukraine’s seaports administration, the affected ships had remained in harbour since the onset of Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022 and were not engaged in active commercial operations at the time of the incident.
While Ukrainian officials described the vessels as non-operational, Russia’s defence authorities stated that the targets included ships allegedly carrying military-related cargo. The differing accounts highlight ongoing disputes between both sides regarding the nature of targets in the conflict.
Recent weeks have seen an escalation in attacks on maritime infrastructure across southern Ukraine, particularly in coastal regions along the Black Sea. In response, Ukrainian forces have intensified operations aimed at disrupting Russian-controlled supply routes, including strikes on vessels linked to fuel transport, as part of broader efforts to weaken Moscow’s logistical and economic capacity.
